Toledo

Today was our big trip to Toledo. This is Sra. Anderson’s favorite stop and she planned it as an extra excursion; it’s truly a special place.

A few of us woke up early for a sunrise stroll to El Palacio. The rest slept in to recover from our trip over. After breakfast our tour manager, Julia, took us on a walking tour of some cool non-touristy sections of Madrid. From there, we had a couple hours of free time and lunch in small groups in the center of Madrid.

In the afternoon we headed to Toledo. We had an amazing guided tour of the old capital. It was Palm Sunday and we toured the Catedral Primada Santa María de Toledo, the most famous cathedral in Spain. We saw El Greco’s most famous work of art, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz in the Iglesia de Santo Tomé. Then we toured the Synagogue of Santa María La Blanca (build by Muslims, finished as a Jewish synagogue and converted to a church, before becoming a museum dedicated to the three historic religions of Toledo). Then we headed to the “sword factory” and on a bus tour around the outskirts of this amazing city!

After arriving back in Madrid, we had another delicious dinner and then headed back to the hotel for relaxation and sleep.

Tomorrow brings us a big tour of Madrid, including the Museo del Prado.
