Barcelona

Ah, our final day... Most of us did a morning hike down to the Mediterranean Sea at sunrise to enjoy a stroll on the boardwalk and to perhaps swim. Well, we didn't swim; the wind was howling and it was too rough (very rare), but we did have a nice walk and relaxed for a bit. From there, we went to the Park Güell, which was designed by Gaudi. From there we went to La Sagrada Familia. It's really hard to capture it in photos; it's just too much. Below are some photos, but we'll have to post some panoramic videos when we get better access to the Internet for you to really appreciate what they have done over the last 10 years. We had lunch in the area of Barcelona's famous La Boquería market and then had super fun flamenco lessons! Even Mr. Jannke tried to dance. We finished off the day with a 3-hour shopping session in La Rambla area before heading out for a special paella din...

Zaragoza and Barcelona

Today was largely a travel day, as we went from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, but there was plenty of fun to be had. We hit the road first thing in the morning toward Barcelona. We stopped for a rest break and snacks after about an hour and a half, then headed on to our lunch stop in Zaragoza. In Zaragosa, we toured the cathedral and had lunch. We were lucky enough to time our mid-day break with a Holy Friday procession! We had been hoping to see one all week and things worked out perfectly today. From there, we headed on to Barcelona with another pitstop along the way. Our tour manager, Julia, is from Barcelona, so we planned to arrive early. We dropped our bags in the hotel and immediately headed downtown to get a feel of Barcelona. Julia taught the kids so much about her city, including how to make castelles , human towers, which Catalans are famous for making. We toured the old Gothic section of town and then headed for dinner and bed. We are...

San Sebastian

Today was our “free day” in San Sebastian. The trip has been jam packed with tours and adventures. We all enjoyed having one day with less structure to regroup before our final push to Barcelona tomorrow. We started the day off by heading into town and to the beach. We stopped to play in a local playground. From there we did a group hike up a hill (Igueldo) on the east side of the bay. We enjoyed the incredible views of the bay, San Sebastian, the rugged coast toward Portugal, the Pyrenees, and France. There was an amusement park at the top, so we enjoyed some treats and rides before heading down by tram. From there, we broke into groups and hit the town on our own. Students walked the boardwalk, enjoyed the beach and spent most of their time in the exciting Parte Vieja. Given that it was Holy Thursday, all the locals were out and the town was very lively and colorful. We regrouped in the afternoon and headed over the bridge to the east side of town, where the surf beach is located...
