Burgos and Bilbao

Today was another busy day. After our morning walk along the river park and breakfast, we headed out on a guided walking tour of Burgos. From there our guide, Luis, took us into Burgos' iconic French Gothic cathedral for a detailed tour. Luis was our favorite guide so far.  He had a fun/funny way of getting us to learn about all that he was so passionate to sharing. After our tour we had a long, 3-hour session of "free time" and the students really loved exploring, eating and shopping in Burgos! At around 3pm we left Burgos for Basque Country. We arrived in Bilbao at the magnificent Guggenheim Museum. Students really enjoyed the self-guided tour, as there were just too many amazing things to see; everyone was able to spend more time in the areas that interested them. It is safe to say that the Guggenheim exceeded everyones expectations and we wish we had more time there- wow! From there we loaded back on the bus and traveled through stunning Basque mountains to the seaside city of San Sebastian. We had dinner and then walked to the old town and main beach (Playa la Concha) for a nighttime adventure. We arrived home at close to midnight. Another long, fun day in the books! Tomorrow is our "free day." We are going to start out with a group hike out of town to see stunning bluffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Then we'll head back to Donostia (San Sebastian) for a day of free-exploring.
